Adult & Senior Oil Painting Class

Exploring Color: MACA Kicks Off a New Year of Adult Art Classes

The Monroe Area Council for the Arts kicked off a new fiscal year of community arts programming on July 31 with an Adult Oil Painting Class at the Madisonville Public Library.

Led by artist and instructor Veronica Miller, the class challenged participants to create an entire painting using only primary colors. Through step-by-step instruction, participants explored color theory and learned how to mix colors to create the shades and combinations needed for their finished artwork. Veronica also introduced techniques including wet-on-wet painting and shared some of the science behind how paint behaves through polymerization and evaporation.

The class welcomed ten participants, including several who were new to painting. Participants worked in pairs, offering encouragement and helping one another as they moved through each step of the process.

One participant shared: “Great class, Veronica Miller! Thank you, and thank you to MACA for sponsoring these fabulous classes and Madisonville Public Library for hosting.”

MACA is grateful to Veronica for creating such an encouraging environment for artists of all experience levels and to the Madisonville Public Library for hosting the class.

This free community arts program was made possible through support from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
