WHAT IS THE SCARECROW STROLL?
Every fall, some new characters start showing up around downtown Madisonville—and they aren't your typical visitors!
The Scarecrow Stroll is a community-wide fall decorating contest that fills downtown with creative, funny, clever and sometimes downright unexpected scarecrows created by local businesses, organizations, schools, churches, groups, families and individuals.
Each scarecrow gets its own name and personality and is displayed at a downtown location for everyone to enjoy. Beginning September 14, the public is invited to stroll through downtown, check out the entries and vote for their favorites through the Halloween in the City event on October 31st.
It's part competition, part fall tradition and a fun way for our entire community to help transform downtown for the season.
You Don't Have to Be Downtown to Participate!
One of the biggest misconceptions about the Scarecrow Stroll is that you have to own a downtown business to enter.
You don't!
Businesses from throughout the community, nonprofits, classrooms, school clubs, churches, civic organizations, teams, families and individuals are all welcome to create an entry.
Don't have a downtown location? We'll help find a place for your scarecrow to call home during the Stroll.
And there is no cost to participate.
What Kind of Scarecrow Can You Make?
That's entirely up to you!
Make it funny. Make it beautiful. Create a character. Represent your business. Show off your organization. Build something around a clever pun. Get your employees, students, members or entire family involved.
And don't forget one of the best parts—give your scarecrow a name!
The more personality, the better. Just keep it clean and friendly!
Ready to Join the 2026 Scarecrow Stroll?
Right now, we're looking for the scarecrows that will make up this year's Stroll!
Registration: Through September 4
Scarecrow Setup: September 4–14
Public Voting: September 14–October 31
Once registration closes, our scarecrows will begin popping up throughout downtown in preparation for voting to begin September 14.
So gather your coworkers, classmates, church group, club, family or friends and start brainstorming.
